Microvision Medical, Inc.
WELCOME TO MICROVISION MEDICAL,
INC.
MicroVision Medical has its beginnings in the Department of Clinical Physiology at the Academic
Medical Center of the University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands. It was setup to expand technology developed at the department,
and remains tightly integrated with the Academic Medical Center and all its facilities.
MicroVision Medical is
dedicated to providing platform technologies for investigation of the (micro)circulation. This platform technology is directed
at both basic and clinical research. Using the technology, it is possible to observe the microcirculation in tissues with
easy and accuracy.
This technology can be used in the lab, at the bedside and in the classroom for study, testing
hypothesis and providing deeper understanding of the microcirculation.
Because of the academic origins of MicroVision
Medical, we aim to provide a sound scientific basis for the technology and its applications, while keeping it affordable for
most departemental budgets.
We expect this technology to provide valuable new insights in various (patho)physiological
and pharmaceutical mechanisms involving the microcirculation in the future and we hope it will result in new and better treatments
for patients worldwide.
The MicroScan
is a state of the art handheld video microscope with LED illumination. It is available in 5x magnification. For improved assessment
of red blood cell velocity, stroboscopic illumination was introduced. The included Battery Unit will last for a minumum of
12 hours of continuous use. Ths allows you to domeasurements all day whithout needing to charge the battery.
The
System has a standard video-output (PAL or NTSC), which allows you to record the measurement on any recording device which
has a standard video-input. Using a capture device, you can convert the image into a digital signal which can be recorded
directly to a computer harddrive. The MicroScan uses a sterile disposable, the MicroScan Lens, to protect the patient and
device. These can be ordered separately from MicroVision Medical. Download our Brochure for more information on the MicroScan.
Sidestream
Dark Field illumination can be used to enable the comprehensive evaluation of the functional state of the microcirculation.
This is achieved by an analysis of the moving cells in the images, which permits the quantitative measurement of red blood
cell flow in the capillaries. This measurement is believed to represent a truly sensitive measurement which is indicative
of cardiovascular function or dysfunction. Sidestream Dark Field illumination utilizes reflectance avoidance in combination
with optical magnification to provide a superior method of measurement of the functional state (e.g. perfusion) of the microcirculation.
Additionally, morphological characteristics of the microcirculation, such as functional capillary density and micro-vessel
morphology, can be measured using reflectance avoidance imaging.
